TopDog’s winter 2025 canine style guide

As another season starts, so does a new collection of trends that fashion-lovers everywhere will be keen to incorporate into their daily outfits.

And many pup-parents are also choosing to not only keep themselves up-to-date with fashion, but also their dogs, with matching outfits being a must.

Dog trainer Terry Cuyler says, “I've heard from dog owners that their dogs feel closer when they wear similar outfits. It also sparks a discussion; people stop them while they're strolling and comment on how well they match.”

“I do have customers who are always looking for the latest dog fashions. It's an integral aspect of their way of life, not just a part of their lifestyle. These dog owners want to keep up with pet influencers and are always looking for new attire for their pets, whether it's a designer jacket or a seasonal bandana. According to them, it's a great way to involve their dog in their hobbies.”

We’ve curated some of the hottest A/W 2025 fashion trends, showcasing how they can be paired with TopDog’s trendy harnesses so owners can stay stylish alongside their faithful companion.

Forever in fashion, faux fur

Faux fur is a trend that has been on and off the catwalk for a very long time, and this autumn/winter it is back with a bang.

Fashion writers at Harper's Bazaar said: “If there was one trend that dominated more than any other on the catwalk for AW25, it was faux fur. Impossible to ignore, almost every major fashion house featured it in their collections in the form of floor-length coats, cropped jackets, stoles, handbags, you name it; it was everywhere.”

Some of the ways faux fur is being featured this season include:

  • Colourful fur

  • “Streetwear meets luxury”

  • In accessories

Ever a popular trend, faux fur gets an average of 97k searches every month, as evidenced by Google Trends with Glimpse, with peaks in autumn and winter.

This interest is also evident on social media, with the hashtag #fauxfur amassing over 1.5 million posts on Instagram and TikTok, and #fauxfurfashion seeing 11.2k posts on Instagram.

It’s a notably controversial fabric (even the faux fur kind), but it is a trend that, according to Harper’s Bazaar, has been gaining traction for a few seasons.

Pair with your pup

Matching with your pup is as easy as anything with the faux fur trend - they are fur after all!

Step into a luxurious faux fur coat, some knee-high boots and take your pup for a walk in matching outfits - one real and one fake.

The colour of the year, brown

It’s no wonder that brown tones have made their way onto the catwalk for this season, given that the Pantone colour of the year is Mocha Mousse.

Harper’s Bazaar says that the brown colour is showing no signs of slowing down: “The return of brown has been talked about excessively over the past few seasons, but its dominance is showing no signs of abating. Whether it came to eveningwear or outerwear, shirting or skirting, earthy brown tones were all over the AW25 catwalks, and are definitely the neutral to embrace now.”

But what shades of brown do you wear? Turns out, quite a few:

The hashtag #brownfashion reaches 19.5k posts on Instagram and nearly two thousand on TikTok, with plenty of inspiration for outfits and colourways.

Veterinarian Sabrina Wong is seeing a lot of her clients embracing the autumnal fashion for their dogs. Alongside protective dog boots for cold, wet pavements, she says that “on the fashion side, think classic autumn patterns like plaid and houndstooth on bandanas and cosy knit scarves.”

Go big with maximalism

One trend hitting the runway this AW25 is ‘maximalism’, which has partly stemmed from the desire to move away from the previous ‘quiet luxury trend', with Vogue noting that it will appeal to “minimalists who’ve outgrown the ultra simplicity of quiet luxury.”

Some of the designs debuting on the catwalk featured overall simplistic shapes and colours, but with additions of fringe embellishments to give it that little something extra.

Fashion Capital also notes that maximalism is replacing years of quiet luxury and making way for “accessories [that] are bold, decorative and expressive - celebrating personality, craftsmanship, and playfulness.”

Some of the ways maximalism can be incorporated into your everyday outfits include:

  • Statement boots

  • Furry finishes

  • Metallic details

  • Added bonnets and scarves

  • Chunky metals meet pearls

  • Functional-turned-fashionable belts

According to Google Trends, the maximalism trend appears to have fluctuated over the last year and has 28k searches each month.

In addition to this, the hashtag #maximalistfashion has a total of nearly 66k posts, featuring images of bold prints, metallic fringes and tiered frills.

For those wanting to ensure their dog is following maximalist fashion, opt for bold prints and bright colours to match your own.

The Love Bug Harness (pictured above) and matching collar are perfect examples of bold prints, with the harness reversible to offer two printed designs.

“God save the Queen”, punk is back

a man stood posed with his dog against a graffiti-covered wall. He is wearing punk-inspired clothing with black ripped skinny jeans, combat boots, a band t-shirt and a black denim jacket. The dog is matching a punk-inspired pink harness reading “Dog Save the King”

Punk has an illustrious history, first bursting into the UK fashion scene in the 1970s with the likes of the Sex Pistols and Vivienne Westwood pushing it into prominence.

Over the years, punk has been an inspiration for many, those still rebelling against the anarchy, or bands who want to adopt a similar sound. Pop punk acts such as Blink-182 and Good Charlotte have cultivated a following that sees fans wearing angsty band t-shirts and skinny jeans.

For 2025, punk is back on our runways in a trend that Vogue refers to as ‘Uptown Punk’, with designers using leather, studded belts and leopard print pieces in their collections.

Other sources are noting a fresh take that includes fishnet tights, combat boots and chequered prints.

#punkfashion has a huge 681k posts on Instagram alone, and 2,000 monthly searches, as shown on Google Trends.

TikTok has over 33k posts about punk fashion, with one user sharing their insights on how the punk style will be worn this season.

Pair with your pup

TopDog has the perfect dog harness for a punk-loving pup-parent who wants their dog to embrace the 70s and its anarchy.

Our Dog Save the King harness features a Sex Pistols-inspired print in bold pink and yellow colours, and there’s a matching “Dog Save the King” tee for humans, so you can fully commit to the coordination.

And for those perhaps less anarchist, but still wanting to embrace the punk fashion, our It’s Just an Illusion harness and matching lead will tie in perfectly to the often monochrome colourways seen in punk fashion. Dog trainer Terry Cuyler says she’s heard from dog owners that they feel closer to their dogs when wearing similar outfits. She says, “They believe that their dog reflects who they are” - so if you're embracing punk, why not let your dog embrace it too?

Go bright with a pop of colour

Marie Claire notes that “your winter wardrobe doesn’t have to fade into black”, with designers embracing sharp tailoring, statement dresses and fearless clashing.

Brown might be the Pantone colour of the year, but why not pair it with a brighter shade and combine two trends in one!

Who What Wear refers to the trend as “in glorious technicolour” and describes designers such as Tony Burch debuting an electric-orange quarter-zip knit and Givenchy a voluminous blazer in chiffon yellow.

Some of the shades spotted have been:

Colourful fashion is very evident on Instagram and TikTok, with 148k and nearly 14k posts respectively, showing a wide variety of outfits embracing the bold trend.
